Flynt Leverett is Visiting Fellow at the Brookings Institution's Saban Center
for Middle East Policy, where he is writing a book about U.S. policy toward
Syria and the war on terror. He is also the author-rapporteur for the forthcoming
report of the Atlantic Council
Working Group on U.S.-Iranian Relations. From February 2002 to March 2003 Dr.
Leverett was Senior Director for Middle East Affairs at the National Security
Council; he also worked on Middle East and counterterrorism issues on the State
Department's Policy Planning Staff and was a senior analyst of Middle Eastern
and South Asian affairs at the CIA. Dr. Leverett holds a Ph.D. in politics from
Princeton University.
