Mark R. Warner was inaugurated as Governor of Virginia in January of 2002. Since
then, Governor Warner has worked in a bipartisan way to eliminate a $6 billion
revenue shortfall, launched comprehensive state government reforms, and implemented
innovative, low-cost programs to increase student achievement and accountability
in public schools. Governor Warner serves as Chairman of the Southern Governors'
Association, Recruitment Chairman of the Democratic Governors' Association,
Education/Early Childhood and Workforce Committee Chairman of the National Governors
Association, and States' Co-Chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission.
Governor Warner also serves as Chairman of the Education Commission of the States,
a national nonpartisan policy organization. Before he became governor, Governor
Warner had a business career in venture capital, funding innovative ideas throughout
Virginia and the nation. Governor Warner is married to Lisa Collis and is the
father of three daughters.
